saffron crocus

Ten more saffron crocus near the path, where the brunnera was. This is prime sun-filled territory, so the brunnera, which can live in shade, had to go. It was very happy there, but a sunny little bed by the path should have edibles in it.

That's a tomato plant that went absolutely crazy on the right. To the left, vancouveria, which also loves shade, and will probably also be moved.

brunnera dirt heavy!

The hole left from where I dug out the big gorgeous brunnera. Tossed a glove in there for size. It was really heavy -- well over 50 pounds. Sixty-something, probably. Very. Heavy. Dirt.

brunnera after move

Please live, please live!

Also, I've notice tiny itchiness before after messing with these guys, but nothing like this. If getting up close and personal with brunnera, like, say, wrapping your arms around them and moving them, wear long sleeves. My forearms and belly, where my shirt came up, are itching like CRAZY. Covered in red bumps.

beautiful brunnera

Before move

This brunnera has been here for two summers (planted in May 2011), and it's easily tripled in size. I love it. But this spot is sunny and great for veggies, so the brunnera needs to go somewhere shadier. I really hope I don't kill it!

A bulb?

I was tidying the mess of violas gone wild, and found two of these. I think it's a bulb - crocus? A little early, hmm?
