spring

Spring has sprung!
The spirea is gorgeous but the potentilla next to it is barely leafing out. Diminishes effect.

Back path looks sloppy. Daffodils did not bloom - probably didn't get enough sun last year? Spindly leaves but no blooms. Huckleberries are sloppy and so are sword ferns. Bleeding hearts pretty but a mish mash. Isn't quite right. Wait until vancouveria grows in to decide what to do.

Need to immediately plant more hops. It's time and last year's has sprouted.

Peas have not.

Serviceberry shrubs are about to flower. Back trees are not yet. Makes are ready to leaf but still bare.

Chives are awake. Oregano is back.

Should have cut back sword ferns, still might.

Need to cut back black lithodora.

In front, need to cayenne bed. Thieving animals still eating tulip and crocus bulbs.

Need to add more perennials between blueberries around large maple. Perhaps more daylilies. Perhaps move from under now-large Pacific wax myrtle.

Said myrtle has a heavy lean to south following heavy rains.

finally planting seeds

Really late, especially for the artichokes, but they are planted. I don't think I like pots - unless they are amazing, I will probably go back to cells next year.

March 7

Mini daffodils!

Brunnera!

Oregano overwintered just fine!

Mukdenia

Dicentra and a mushroom. I got six of these at the flower show and put back by the "fairy" door. Kiddo moved them around; I expected that. I did not expect him to then hurl them away, breaking the other five.

Bigroot geranium lived! Wondering what it will do this year

At least some of the hellebores the dog stomps through are doing OK

I ove helebores

And I love crocus

Astilbe getting started
