Spring bulbs are coming up, oops!
Not sure what the two weak ones on the left are. Too tall, scraggly, completely underneath the hardy geranium. Crocus on the right, I think.

Late October Walkthrough
Still have lots of huckleberries newly ripe to pick!
More green beans are ready, and the sunshine blue blueberries are still ripening.
Spring bulbs are also popping up near the house patio - either crocus or muscari.
Scraggly rhodie looking much better after feeding. Glad!
New transplants are all looking ok with fall rains taking over while we were out of town.
Lost an evergreen huckleberry between the scraggly rhodie and fir tree. Didn't get enough water over summer.
Serviceberry shrubs have dropped leaves that only turned mildly yellow. Nothing dramatic there this year, even with the one in the sun.
Serviceberry trees are yellow and pretty against fence.
Transplanted brunnera (that I moved with a ton of dirt!) looks totally happy now. Best transplant I've done yet. Too bad it hurt me for a week or so!
Mukdenia are not as happy. Looking flooded and maybe dead. Hope they come back next year.
Peas from summer seed are still producing.
Camellia buds are promising.
Annual daisies are still hanging on!
Big maple has pretty red leaves!
Emperor I maple is slowly turning burgundy.
Red flowering currants that I moved look bad, but I see many, many green shoots. Might survive!
It's just beautiful here.

oxalis spreading
I count four points where it is aboveground and separated from the original plant. Three on the two other plants. ...still pretty!

beans! And snowdrops
Surprise more beans! They live clambering the huckleberry and red flowering currant along the west fence, and the tomatoes beside the house facing west. Love.
Still getting tomatoes there, too!
Planted snowdrops, more near the back rhodie, near the patio corner by the house, and with the daylilies by the red flowering currant.

saffron crocus

Ten more saffron crocus near the path, where the brunnera was. This is prime sun-filled territory, so the brunnera, which can live in shade, had to go. It was very happy there, but a sunny little bed by the path should have edibles in it.
That's a tomato plant that went absolutely crazy on the right. To the left, vancouveria, which also loves shade, and will probably also be moved.
brunnera dirt heavy!
brunnera after move

Please live, please live!
Also, I've notice tiny itchiness before after messing with these guys, but nothing like this. If getting up close and personal with brunnera, like, say, wrapping your arms around them and moving them, wear long sleeves. My forearms and belly, where my shirt came up, are itching like CRAZY. Covered in red bumps.

bed
Evergreen huckleberry from Gray Barn. Three bunchberry from McAuliffe's. To the left, we'll put in another vine maple; to the right, a small shed. Soon. Ish.
bed!
Transplanted two red flowering currants yesterday. They don't look so good.
Vancouveria along left side of bed and in front of RFC, from Molbak's.
Two evergreen huckleberries, from Gray Barn.
Deer fern in back, under window, small, from McAuliffe's.
Sword fern on right, from Gray Barn.
Two bunchberry from McAuliffe's.

slugs, and a pepper

Cayenne pepper here, just barely growing. It put out a pepper but clearly doesnt like it.
Green bean seeds fll on the ground nearby and grew. Looks to me like a slug did a number on this one.

Mid-August update
First Toad Lily blooms of the year.

Unfortunately, the plant is a mess. There's a large aboveground spinkler there that beats the crap out of them. I bet they grow back fine next year. I do like them (though worry about their toxicity, even though it's not berries), and they're one of the few things that do well in the fall when most things have slowed down. Maybe next year we can get the irrigation over here buried, and these can grow back in better shape!

Tomato plant has gone wild in the heat. Several bean plants are climbing all over the place, too, though I do't see any beans yet!

These Crocosmia look better and better every day. I love them!
