different crocus

I know a got a few different kinds. Last year, only the generic purple snow crocus came up. This year, looks like I'm going to get another kind too! I planted

to go with last year's

so we'll see. The pattern is not what I planted, but the moles and the squirrels will do what they do, and random it is!!

tiny plants
It looks like a tiny astilbe is coming up under the big rhodie! Last year I did not water them enough and they seemed to die, though I left their roots in place. I didn't expect anything, but left a couple inches of stem to show where they'd been, so I didn't disturb them. Just in case. Now - I see a tiny pink shoot!
There's also a small shoot under the rhodie that looks like a brand new Oregon grape. There are four along the western fence, from the corner by the big rhodie to behind the scraggly rhodie. I think they are managing to spread!

Spring planning
Pole beans - they do well around the yard, but I'm not sure what to grow them against. They grow easily 6' tall. I was thinking about letting them clamber up the new maple trees, but B doesn't think that's a good idea. I don't seen why not, so long as it's the trunk and lower branches and not shading out actual leaves, but ... I guess I'll be putting in some poles. Taller poles than I got last year, too. Or letting it climb over the red flowering currant again; that worked fine.
Peas - they also need room to climb - not sure yet where they'll go either.
Tomatoes - a cherry or grape tomato in the hanging planter on the deck or by the garage, and another in the sunny area either by the house patio or by the red maple. Both did fine last year. Maybe one in planter, two in the ground. Might try a couple of varieties said to do well here in seed catalog.
Strawberries - in the pop-out hanging planter on the deck - or elsewhere?
Clematis to grow up in the scraggly rhodie
Lettuce, bok choi, spinach in the deck planters and perhaps try them on the ground in the shade near the grass path and along the west fence path
Something lower-growing for the sunny beds along the east fence
Patio cucumber in a pot with a little trellis - back patio if I can track sun, otherwise front yard?
Basil, oregano, thyme - how to keep from bolting again? Simply pinch it more? Oregano and thyme might be perennial?
Chives - never really took off last year?
Need to extend water lines to deck planters inconspicuously. The deck planters on the railings are pretty and convenient - but dry out so quickly July-September. Twice a day minimum won't happen daily.
More thinking to do yet....

hellebores
Hellebores aren't doing as well so far this year. Broken apart by animals or kids, too. New growth on the scraggly rhodie, though!
