notes
Water near back patio - sunshine blue blueberries are getting dry. Water west side of house under eave for allium.
Eight separate astilbe coming up in bed along north side of house. ...how many did I plant? ... put some of the hellebores much too close.
The second moved toad lily is alive after all and sending up some green.
Candy tuft is thinking about opening. Looks really rough. So doors remaining phlox.
All the daylillies are coming up, and multiplied. Two or three where I planted one.
Some alliums up one east fence but dog mangled a bit. Crocosmia from last year coming up.
Beautiful evening, love it here.
Except for getting chased in by a bumblebee.
fertilized and culled
Pulled out the weed. Moved one Montana over to sasha - it's bottom left (when reversed from photo). Added sprinklings of Jobe's organics all purpose fertilizer to each cell of tomatoes and topped them off with soil, then watered with a syringe. Basil all have only one set of true leaves, so I left them alone. I have seven chives sprouted.
Tomatoes actually smell like tomato plants! They're growing faster than I thought they would, too. I won't have room for all of these under the light at the same time in 4" pots, so they stay here awhile longer.

kids, pets, plants
Backyard is turning to be a rough neighborhood. Andrew rips off daffodil heads and stomps muscari and the dog runs over the rest. Back should have more ferns and the front should have the flowers.
peas and bulbs and spring
Seven peas in the ground have finally shown themselves and are about a half-inch tall at most.
Many tulips are up, but they are ragged and ugly. The dog sits on them.
Andrew just tossed off the cap of his sandbox onto daffodils. Snapped several and bent more. Oops! Flowers too delicate to be near a play spot.
The first hyacinth is opening. It's yellow. Many muscari are out.
Mukdenia bloomed. Dog snapped that too!
No sign of the lady in red ferns that looked like they were already growing. Scratched around, can't find. Probably dead. :-(
No sign of trilliums either, but you never know with them.
Gold leaf are dicentra growing well, but no sign of the others yet.
The Jacobs ladder closest to the patio that I didn't cut out (never died of cold) looks good. The odds I did cut Bach isn't out yet. The brunnera near the back patio are trying to come up despite the dog's efforts there.
New growth on evergreen huckleberries and the tassel ferns all look great. The oxalis is growing fast.
Two astilbe from last year under the big rhodie are coming back.

seedlings and mystery
The one on the upper left of the second picture is not a tomato and not a basil, and that's all I planted here. What is it, I wonder?

seedlings

I messed with them. I separated some Sasha's Pride where two were growing in one cell (despite attempts to just put in one -- can seeds grow twins? ;-) ) Pulled as gently as I could. The roots are about three times as long as what I can see on top; I'm impressed!
Several of the Montana are doubled and tripled... leaving them for now. Really don't know how I managed to drop three seeds into one hole in one case. One cell is growing something that isn't a tomato (along with a tomato). The stem is slender, the leaves are quite different. The basil are still much smaller so I doubt it's that, but what *is* it?
I pulled seedcaps off where they were still stuck. Couldn't stand it. Only ripped the leaves on one.
One poor little Sasha is just a stub. No leaves at all. Green and standing straight up, but no leaves. My thalidomide baby.
All of the basil have sprouted. Some of those are double or triple, but those seeds are much tinier, so not surprised. No sign of chives yet, but I planted those just a couple of days ago.
I patted things down and built up the soil around the leggiest ones. Most of them are working on a set of true leaves! We'll see tomorrow what I killed and what continues to live... lots are looking kind of floppy, but I don't know what's normal. Maybe I need to bring in a little fan, if I can find one, as I've seen recommended.

dahlias
Two dinnerplate, picked by D, and two Anemone, picked by B, in front of the knophilia, two of which appear alive and one of which isn't showing signs of anything.
Crocosmia
Emily McKenzie molbak's. A few inches deep, when I see existing Crocosmia bulbs near top of soil. Hope not doing it wrong.
strawberries
Seaside, bareroot, from territorial seed. They sat inside at least a week before I planted them. Hope they do ok.
huh
What is this between the snowdrops and the daylillies that don't get enough sun? Not sure whether I planned something here last year or not. Looks a bit like spinach...
